saṃtoṣa

yoga, adventures, small bits of happiness, and a healthy dose of DIY.
just me, a yoginī, all that i need is the air that i breathe.
saṃtoṣa (pronounced sahn-TOE-sha) is a personal observance in yoga, to be content with what you have, because you already have everything you need.

  1. peace offering: the oil cleansing method

Despite my success with the method I outlined in a previous post, I’ve found that over time toning with apple cider vinegar is too harsh for my skin. I’ve replaced the ACV with tea tree oil mixed into jojoba oil which serves the same purpose, but doesn’t irritate and redden my skin.

I originally added oil into my skin care routine with the goal of making peace with my sebaceous glands once and for all. Since adding oil has yielded such positive results, I’ve decided to experiment further by trying out the oil cleansing method, eliminating the use of soap on my face altogether. I expect there to be a bit of a purging period, things will certainly get worse before they get better, but I believe that this next step is the way to go for me.

I’ve been using a blend of 2 parts castor oil to 1 part jojoba oil, cleaning my face with this blend in the evening and using only a wet washcloth in the morning. So far my skin seems soft and not overly greasy, and my acne situation is still the same: some blackheads and whiteheads, and a tolerable amount of small blemishes.

    Pictures and updates to follow!
